Approved Driving Instructors are approved by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). Every A.D.I. is regularly checked by the DVSA to ensure high standards of tuition are maintained. A green identification certificate, issued by the DVSA and displayed by law on the windscreen of the tuition vehicle, shows that your driving instructor is fully qualified. Already have an instructor?

Most people choose their instructor from a recommendation and this is certainly a great place to start. But, remember, people learn differently so the instructor who taught your friend might not be the right one for you.

Does your current instructor:

  • Make you feel comfortable and at ease?
  • Turn up on time for 95% of your lessons?
  • Offers you an apology and an explanation if he's late and add the time on the end of the lesson?
  • Very rarely cancel a lesson?
  • Ask you how you prefer to learn & adapt his teaching methods to suit?
  • Use the latest technology to explain road proceedures?
  • Offer demonstrations?
  • Provide handouts to accompany lessons?
  • Appear enthusiastic about teaching you?
  • Take an interest in you as a person?
  • Do you find yourself laughing and smiling during your lessons?
  • Do you look forward to your lessons?
  • Do you feel as though you're progressing well?

If you answer 'no' to at least three of the above questions then it might be worth considering changing your instructor.
